The Answers to All Your Questions

We’re dedicated, passionate, and committed to enhancing literacy and essential skills in our community.

What is the EALG?

The Estevan Area Literacy Group is a not-for-profit registered charity that was formed in 2007.

How do we raise money for the EALG?

  • We apply for grants from various organizations to support literacy programs, including the Community Initiatives Fund, Access Communications Children’s Fund, Rotary Club of Estevan and SK Lotto's Community Grant Program and the United Way.
  • We are a member agency of the United Way of Estevan.
  • Donations from the general population who wish to support Literacy in our community. As a registered charity, we issue receipts for donations over $20. If you are interested in donating to the Estevan Area Literacy Group please contact Grace (306) 634-4711 or literacycoordinator@outlook.com

How do I get involved?

There are three main ways to become involved:

  1. become a volunteer tutor and work with English Language Learners and/or Adult Literacy Learners,
  2. become a regular member of the EALG, or
  3. become a Director of the EALG.

What is the time commitment of a Director?

Directors are elected annually at the Annual General Meeting, which is usually held in October or November. The commitment is to attend the regular monthly meeting (Sept-June) and to oversee the operation of the EALG. We are currently looking for new board members. Please contact Grace @ 306-634-4711 for more information.

Who do we serve?

We address all areas of literacy, but we are currently concentrating on family and children’s literacy programs and English as an Additional Language classes.

What are our regular programs?

Many of our programs vary, depending on the needs of the community and the organizations with whom we partner. We often work with partners in the community to address literacy or settlement needs identified by our partners.

What is the time commitment of a volunteer?

We ask our volunteer tutors to commit to working with a student for 1 hour per month. Before we can match a volunteer tutor with a student, we must receive a current Criminal Record Check.
